Plants for Butterfly Garden

This is a reminder to students and families to please bring in your small potted plant this Monday (May 1st).

For those families who chose to donate to the garden, I will be purchasing some plants with this money over the weekend!

I am re-posting the project information below.

Thank you for your support and generosity!

I priced out the cost of small plants (Save on Foods and Canadian Tire).  4” plants range in price from about $1.29 – $4.99 (much less than what I put down on the form!).

If your child wishes to bring in a larger plant, the 8″ ones are about $6.99 – $9.99 or they could bring in a few of the smaller ones.  However, one small 4″ plant is plenty!

Animal Research Projects

Over the next few months, we will be going to the library every Tuesday to work on independent animal research projects.

Each child has chosen an animal and will be writing about its:

  • Appearance
  • Food
  • Habitat
  • Behaviour
  • Connection to the First Nations people

I have gathered photos of each child’s animal and will be printing them at school tomorrow.

If your child would like to find their own pictures online and print them in colour, that would be great too.  They may wish to find one photo to represent each of the points above.  If you plan to do this, please send them to school in your child’s pochette.  We will be using these photos on Friday.  This is optional!

Here is the list of the animals:

Aksel Grey Wolf
Alex
Anna Robin
Anuk Moose
Azhar Ladybug
Clement Spider
December Polar Bear
Donya Raccoon
Emmi Dolphin
Ewen Squirrel
Finn Whale
Lara Dolphin
Max B Lynx
Max S-L Fox
Micah Deer
Nova Caribou
Rocco
Ruby Squirrel
Sebastian
Silas Frog
Stella Red Fox
Stellan Brown Bear
William Polar Bear
Zack Beluga

*Alex, Rocco, and Sebastian were away last week.  They will be able to choose their animal tomorrow at the library.

**Students will also be doing their weekly book exchange on Tuesdays.  We will no longer be visiting the library on Wednesdays, so please make sure your child remembers to bring their books on or before Tuesday.  They will not be permitted to take out a new book until the old ones have been returned.  All of the animal books will be staying in the classroom.

Merci!

Butterfly Garden Date Change

Hi Everyone,

The school has just received a grant for the garden which means it will be undergoing a major transformation in the next few weeks.  Although this is great news for the school, unfortunately we will not be able to plant our butterfly garden until the beginning of May.

For this reason, I am hoping students can bring in their potted plants on Monday, May 1st (NOT after the Easter weekend as originally planned). I was looking forward to starting this project next week, but we will still have plenty of time to get things organized before the arrival of the butterflies.

Thank you to everyone who returned their forms and to all of those families who made donations.  I appreciate your support very much!

I will send out a reminder closer to the date and my apologies for the inconvenience.

Thank you for your understanding!  Merci!

Bonjour familles,

On Friday, you should have received a form explaining our upcoming Butterfly Garden project.  If not, you will be able to see the form at the end of this post.

In my travels this weekend, I priced out the cost of small plants (Save on Foods and Canadian Tire).

It does not necessarily have to be a plant for butterflies (although that would be a fantastic!).  Your child may simply wish to bring in a favourite flower and anything bright in colour would be great! The only requirement is that it is an outdoor plant.

If you could please fill out and return the form at the bottom of the notice as soon as possible, it would be much appreciated.  I plan to go out and purchase a few extra plants over Easter Weekend and would like to have a sense of who is bringing what.  Please keep in mind that no child will be excluded!

Here is the form, for those of you who missed it on Friday:
