Bonjour and Happy New Year!
Thank you all very much for your Christmas cards and gifts before the break – I was so touched by your kind words and generosity. Merci beaucoup!
I hope you all enjoyed the holidays and are feeling refreshed and in high spirits. It is hard to believe we will be back in school next week!
Please click here to view the January calendar. A hard copy will be sent home in your child’s pochette on Tuesday as well as more information on Dictée and Home Reading.
Please join us in the cafeteria tomorrow morning for a Pancake Breakfast.
We will be serving food between 7:45-8:45am.
Hope to see you there!
As you know, tomorrow we will be going to see Mixed Nuts at the Playhouse.
We will be leaving the school at 9:30 and will be returning at lunch.
We will be walking, so please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the cold weather (coat, hat, gloves, warm comfortable shoes, etc.).
Please also make sure your child has a snack in a disposable wrapper. Please put the snack in their jacket pocket. We will be eating when we arrive at the theatre. Please no spoons or containers!
Thank you to all of the parents who reached out to me about joining us tomorrow. Due to a limited number of seating, we will only be able to take the following parents:
Michealla, Chris, Heidi, Finn’s Grandma, and Ewen’s Grandma.
For all future field trips, please indicate on the form if you are able to join us. Parents will be only contacted if they are needed, so please do not make any special arrangements before you speak to one of the teachers. If you do not hear from us, please assume we are unable to have you join us. We will try our best to give all families the opportunity to join us on at least one field trip this year. Sorry for any confusion!
We will be going Skating at Britannia January 19th. All parents are welcome to join us then. There are no number restrictions!
Merci et à demain!
Yellow Work Folders
Due to the rain and snow, we did not send home the student work folders last week. We will be sending them home today. Please return the empty folder before Friday as we will be using them for Term 2. Please note that art projects and student workbooks will be coming home at the end of the year.
Report Cards will be coming home tomorrow. We ask that you please also return this envelope before Friday.
Mixed Nuts Field Trip
On Thursday, we will be going to the Vancouver Playhouse to see Mixed Nuts (an adaptation of the Nutcracker).
We will be walking to the theatre and will be leaving the school at 9:30. We should be back before lunch.
So far, I have confirmed with the following parent volunteers: Michaela, Shannon, Heidi. We still have room for one more volunteer, so please let me know if you are interested!
On Friday, students are invited to wear holiday attire (red and green, Christmas sweaters, Santa hats, etc.)
In the morning, we will be playing holiday bingo and drinking hot chocolate.
In the afternoon, we will be watching a holiday movie and eating popcorn.
As you know, Madame Stewart will be leaving at the end of this Term. She has received a permanent position at General Gordon teaching Grade 7 Late Immersion. We will miss her!
I will be teaching in the classroom full-time (mornings and afternoons) until Madame Collette returns from her Maternity leave mid-February. In February, we will go back to Mornings/Afternoons so that I can continue with the Reading Recovery program.
There will be a TOC replacing Madame Stewart for 6 weeks. He/She will do some small group pull-out reading support with the class.
Please visit the 5 au quotidien page to learn about our daily literacy program.
The students have come so far with their reading and writing skills this term! Bravo!
We had a great first day in the new classroom!
We spent quite a bit of time going over the new classroom and building routines. There is a lot to remember so we will be reviewing this over the next week.
One of the routines we practiced was drop-off and pick-up. The students have been instructed to use only the doors facing on to Keefer street (NOT the doors leading into the courtyard). Students will be using these doors after recess and lunch as well as before and after school. Please help the students to get in the habit of these doors by walking around the building when you drop them off and pick them up. Please do not cut through the building from the front entrance. You can access the Keefer doors by going around the East side of the building. There are 200+ students entering and exiting through the courtyard doors (including students in Grade 6/7) and we want to keep the traffic to a minimum and of course keep the little ones safe.
In the morning, we ask that students please line up outside the Keefer doors. Madame Bouchard and Madame Lexy will come to pick up the students at 9:00. On rainy days, students and parents are welcome to come inside the main foyer at 8:55. Students must be supervised by an adult until the bell rings. We ask that you are quiet inside the building as teachers are often busy prepping materials or in morning meetings.
After school, please wait outside the Keefer doors. We will dismiss students from there. On rainy days, you are welcome to come into the main foyer at 2:55. We will meet you there!
Please make sure your child remembers to bring back their inside shoes tomorrow. With the snow, we are trying to avoid getting the classroom floor wet and slippery.
I will be away tomorrow morning at a workshop, but Madame Stewart can answer any of your questions. Otherwise, I will see you at 3:00.
Thank you for your patience and understanding during this hectic time!
